Meet the coaches
The same coaches see you week after week. They learn how you move, what you are working towards, and what to change when it stops working.
Every class is coached.
No unstaffed hours pretending to be a class. A coach runs every session on the timetable — warming you up, teaching the movements, adjusting the weight and the volume to suit you, and watching how you move.
That is the whole product. The programme gives training direction; the coach makes it work for the person in front of them.
Who runs Instinct.
Luke & Emma Fiso
Co-Owners
Luke and Emma have owned and run Instinct since 2013, and both still coach.
Luke opened the gym in Thorndon and competed as a CrossFit athlete for New Zealand, including at the 2019 CrossFit Games, with six national titles between 2016 and 2021. He holds a Bachelor of Health Science in Sport and Exercise from Massey University, a CrossFit Level 3 Trainer certification, and is a trustee of the Wellington Fitness Community Trust.
Emma runs the business side and coaches the Wellington Girls College rowing programme. She came to Instinct from Wellington City Council, where she was Programs Team Leader. She has represented New Zealand in two sports — weightlifting, and gymnastics at Level 10 — and has competed at CrossFit Semifinals. She holds a Bachelor of Physical Education from the University of Otago.
They are also parents. Like most of our members, they fit their own training around work and a young family — which is a large part of why the timetable looks the way it does.
